Emanuel Rahiem Leblanc GQ, an American group actually started out as a quartet called Sabu & the Survivors in 1968, with Keith Crier “Sabu.” But later during the 1970s, the group was renamed as rhythm makers as it turned into a funk band.

 The group rhythm makers consisted of Emanuel Rahiem Leblanc, Keith “Sabu” Crier, Herb Lane, and Kenny Banks, right after the group was formed, they released their album “Soul on Your Side” in 1976, which featured their popular dancefloor hit “Zone.” 

The group name was changed again when Kenny Banks was replaced by Paul Service, and to make it more solid the group’s manager suggested changing their name to GQ, which stood for “good quality.”

 GQ or good quality really gained a huge fandom with their disco-influenced music. Their debut album, Disco Nights, was a huge success “Disco Nights (Rock-Freak)” in 1979. It reached number one on the R&B singles chart for two weeks and then made it to number three on the Hot Dance Club Play chart. The band of Emanuel Rahiem Leblanc even reached number twelve on the Billboard Hot 100.

The story didn’t end here; they alone sold over one million copies in the US.

As the name suggests good quality, they kept moving forward with all their zeal making another great hit with their remake of Billy Stewart’s “I Do Love You,” which reached number twenty on the Billboard Hot 100. 

Why was Paul Service replaced 

 Paul Service, who was also a part of Emanuel Rahiem Leblanc’s band GQ, met with a car accident in the year 1980 where he injured his wrist. However the band was able to find another member and welcomed Steve Adorno, who replaced Paul Service.

 It’s amazing to see that Steve Adorno served from 1980 to 2010, which is a very long duration, it shows Steve’s love towards the band and their members. 

Rumors about GQ 

There were some rumors floating around about Keith “Sabu” Crier and Keith Sweat, but they turned out to be false. Sabu, who was a member of GQ, couldn’t have been Keith Sweat as they both belong to different timelines. 

As Sweat was born in 1961, which shows he was very young and impossible for him to be a part of GQ band.

 Emanuel Rahiem Leblanc signed with Capitol Records and released his solo album “Always Be Around” in 1991. He is often called as Mr.Q who is paying tribute to the band. In 1999, Mr. Q, who is now a solo performer, recorded a covers album called “A Tribute to Marvin Gaye and Billy Stewart.” And in 2017, GQ finally released their highly anticipated follow-up to “Disco Nights” called “The Mr. Q Project” on Nu Classic Records.
