The Antone Lee Tavares brothers, who had Cape Verdean heritage, started their musical journey as Chubby and the Turnpikes when they were young. Signing with Capitol Records in 1967 and changing their name to Tavares in 1973 must have been such exciting milestones for them. Antone Lee Tavares had this disco vibe, even though they were rooted in R&B. Their appearance on the Saturday Night Fever soundtrack in 1977 gave disco vibes, which was even surprising for fans. They recorded the Bee Gees song “More Than a Woman” which ended up being a hit for them on the Pop Top 40 charts. Antone Lee Tavares and his team made a successful hit in the industry which even helped them to win prestigious grammy.

Antone Lee Tavares switched things up and moved away from the disco sound. Antone Lee Tavares made a switch to RCA in early 1980s and had one last big hit with the beautiful ballad “A Penny for Your Thoughts,” which even earned them a Grammy nomination in 1982.
