They became well-known after opening for the Jackson 5 on tour. History of Ronald LaPread Band “Commodores”

The Commodores, an American band, where Ronald LaPread was a bass guitarist, came into being when two student groups, the Mystics and the Jays, came together. Lionel Richie, Thomas McClary, and William King were in the Mystics, while Andre Callahan, Michael Gilbert, and Milan Williams were in the Jays.

 They all went to Tuskegee University and started performing at parties and local clubs. The Band’s first singer was James Ingram, who left the band after some time because he wanted to serve in Vietnam and Ronald LaPread used to play bass guitar. . Walter “Clyde” Orange joined as the drummer and became one of the lead singers, along with Lionel Richie. Benny Ashburn managed the band and also helped them to perform at summer festivals. Commodores were also seen in ‘Thank God it’s Friday ‘here in this movie they performed “too hot ta Trot”. However, despite their success the group gradually shifted to commercial pop.
